The dynamics of marriages and divorces across economic regions in Azerbaijan

Abstract

The decline in the number of marriages and the simultaneous increase in divorces over the last decade in Azerbaijan is concerning and necessitates further investigation of this issue. This study provides a comparative analysis of marriages and divorces in Azerbaijan across the country’s economic regions for the period 2015-2022. The findings indicate an increasing trend in divorce rates across all economic regions. The significant differences in divorce rates among economic regions are noteworthy. Changes in nominal income levels among the population do not sufficiently explain this disparity, highlighting the need for broader, micro-level (individual or family) research.
