Abstract:The research comprehensively analyzes the dynamics of mortality indicators in the Republic of Azerbaijan, the impact of the pandemic, and regional differences. In 2000–2019, the overall mortality rate remained relatively stable; however, particularly in 2010–2019, life expectancy increased due to a decline in mortality among older age groups. During this period, the role of technological innovations in healthcare is emphasized, especially the application of modern methods in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
In 2020–2021, the COVID-19 pandemic and the 44-day Patriotic War sharply increased mortality rates. Although official statistics reported 10.3 thousand deaths from the pandemic, indirect estimates suggest that the actual number reached 31–32 thousand. During the pandemic period, diseases of the circulatory system were the leading causes of death.
In subsequent years, the overall mortality rate declined; however, infant mortality indicators showed sharp fluctuations, mainly associated with registration issues. The analysis by economic regions revealed significant disparities between regions and, in some cases, possible statistical inconsistencies. The study concludes with recommendations to strengthen the healthcare system, improve statistical reporting, and expand preventive measures.
